Vera Sprunk

Vera De Locia Sprunk, 94 years of age passed from this life to her heavenly home surrounded by her family at the Wesley Life Cottages in Pella. She was born October 28, 1925, in Ryder, North Dakota, the daughter of Albert and Elma Ronning Warner. She grew up in Ryder and as a young girl gave her heart to the Lord and served Him for the rest of her life. She graduated from high school with honors in Ryder. After graduation she moved to Minot where she worked for several years as a secretary and bookkeeper. Vera later moved to Fargo where she was employed as a secretary for the director of the state high school correspondence division on the state university campus.

Vera's joy and ministry in life was playing the piano, organ, and accordion. From her high school days on through life, she accompanied many soloists, church services, choirs, and played for countless weddings and funerals.

While living in Fargo, Vera met Ralph Sprunk, the two of them were married on June 30, 1962, in Fargo. Together the two of them ministered in their church and to the under privileged in Fargo. Following their marriage Ralph felt called to Vennard College in University Park, Iowa, to pursue further education. The two of them moved to University Park until Ralph completed school. Upon graduation, they moved to Kansas City, where Ralph enrolled in the Nazarene Theological Seminary. While Ralph was busy studying and earning his Master of Divinity. Vera was working in the office of a Christian organization and earned her PHT (Putting Hubby Through) degree. It was there that their son Timothy was born on May 10, 1965. Following Ralph's graduation, they returned to University Park and Ralph worked for his alma mater, Vennard. Vera also worked for the school for many years. Later she took a job at the Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa as the secretary for the pastor and bookkeeper.
Vera enjoyed traveling with her family visiting many states. She especially enjoyed many trips to Colorado and North Dakota to visit family. A highlight for both Vera and Ralph was the trip they took to the Holy Land. On that trip they explored London, Israel, Greece, Lebanon, Damascus, Cypress, Egypt, and Jerusalem.

Vera enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, and quilting. The blessing she received was from reading God's word and for many years from a young girl on, she read the Bible through each year.

Vera loved spending time with her friends and her family, especially her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of over 57 years, Ralph Sprunk of Pella; her son and his wife, Tim and Loretta Sprunk of Pella; two grandchildren, Ryan (Crystal) Sprunk and Morgan Sprunk; three great grandchildren, Dylan, Alex, and Kinsley; three brothers in law, Reverend Luther Bergeland, Ronald Sprunk, and George Garland; three sisters in law, Mary Lou Cappelloni, Sister Mary Georgiana, Jane Jacobson; and many nieces and nephews.
